The ORV Fellowship program consists of one year of clinical training in diagnostic and operative arthroscopy under the supervision of board-certified orthopaedic surgeons in a private practice setting.
Fellows are exposed to arthroscopic and open surgical procedures for the knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle, and wrist. Fellows participate in the surgical reconstruction of ligamentous instabilities of the knee and shoulder. They examine patients postoperatively, and, under the direction of the attending physician, plan a complete rehabilitative program. The surgical and clinical experience is under the direction of William R. Beach M.D., Shannon M. Wolfe M.D., Paul E. Caldwell III M.D., Julious Smith, III M.D., and Dustin C. Dyer, D.O.
Fellows are expected to participate in academic research which will result in publishable reports by the time they complete the program. Fellows are also responsible for presenting current journal articles at a monthly Journal Club meeting on a rotational basis.Fellows participate in sports medicine team coverage of local high school and college athletic programs, providing on-site coverage of sporting events, pre-season physicals, and office and surgical support for area athletes. Fellows attend the AOSSM Fellows course, held at the Orthopaedic Learning Center, as well as another professional meeting of their choice.
The base stipend for one year is $60,000 with additional income opportunities through taking weekend call. Additional benefits include malpractice insurance, life, health, and disability insurance, a medical meeting allowance, and vacation time.
The Orthopaedic Research of Virginia (ORV) Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship will be participating in the 2024 SF Match and will be accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Fellowship year through the online SF Match.
